Marcia Bryant Vice President, Clinical Operations | Outer Banks Hospital
Outer Banks Health has announced the retirement of Marcia Bryant, MSN, RN, NE-BC, who served as Vice President of Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer. Bryant is set to retire in December 2024 after a 48-year career in healthcare, including nine years with Outer Banks Health (OBH). She leaves behind a legacy marked by significant contributions to healthcare excellence and community impact.
Bryant's tenure included being named one of The North Carolina Great 100 Nurses, Inc., and serving as chief nursing officer since 2015. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing the Outer Banks Dementia Task Force in 2014 and making OBH the first dementia-friendly hospital in North Carolina by 2017. The "Purple Seahorse" became a symbol of dementia-friendly care under her guidance.
In recognition of her work, OBH has dedicated the “Seahorse Room” in its Medical Office Building with a commemorative plaque celebrating her achievements.
Devereux Grindle, MSN, RN, CPPS, LSSGB will succeed Bryant. Grindle joined OBH in 2017 as director of quality and brings over two decades of healthcare experience. Her accomplishments include leading TJC Hospital Surveys for OBH’s Acute Stroke Ready accreditation and directing pandemic response efforts. She also established a Healthcare Careers Exploration Program with local schools and improved clinical practices through Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
Grindle's leadership focuses on teamwork, patient education, compassionate care, professional development, healthcare equity, safety, and inspiring future professionals.
Outer Banks Health remains committed to providing high-quality patient-centered care. As it transitions leadership from Bryant to Grindle, the organization reflects on the strong foundation built by Bryant while looking forward to continued growth under new leadership.
