COUNTY OF DARE: Announces Martin Luther King Jr. Day Schedule Changes and Closures

County of Dare issued the following announcement on Jan. 6.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all Dare County offices will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2022. 

In addition, the Dare County Public Works Department, which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County as well as the Town of Kitty Hawk*, has announced a revised trash collection schedule for next week in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  

Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, January 17, 2022, through Friday, January 21, 2022, will take place as follows.  

  • Monday, January 17, 2022 - CLOSED for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no trash  collection)
  • Tuesday, January 18, 2022 - Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
  • Wednesday, January 19, 2022 - Manteo, Wanchese, East Lake, Stumpy Point,  Manns Harbor, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
  • Thursday, January 20, 2022 - Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
  • Friday, January 21, 2022 - Manteo, Wanchese, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Manns  Harbor, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon  
Commercial dumpsters will be picked up on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, and on Friday, January 21, 2022. 

The Dare County C&D Landfill, Buxton Transfer Station and Manteo Recycle Yard will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2022, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

Dare County offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. For more information about the Dare County Public Works Department, visit DareNC.com/PublicWorks.
