County of Hyde issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
Year in and year out, rip currents and powerful surf are a leading weather-related killer in eastern NC. Today is one of those days where the ocean wants to make you a statistic. DO NOT ENTER THE WATER if you are headed to the beach today...the surf will be powerful enough to overwhelm even the strongest of swimmers. Stay on dry sand.
TS Henri is expected to strengthen into a Hurricane as it passes well east of the Outer Banks today. Minor beach erosion and overwash of very weak dune structures are possible around the time of the early evening high tide mainly along the southern Outer Banks.
Visit weather.gov/mhx/tropical for the latest on Henri.
