Town of Emerald Isle issued the following announcement on Aug. 19.
As the school year draws near, Emerald Isle Ocean Rescue Lifeguards will continue to be on the beach strand daily through September. Beginning August 18 to August 31, 2021, there will be five or six lifeguards on the beach strand Monday through Thursday, and there will be six on duty Friday through Sunday to best serve our residents and visitors.
From September 1 to September 30, 2021, 4 lifeguards will be on the beach strand Monday through Thursday, and there will be 5 on duty Friday through Sunday. Western and Eastern Ocean Regional Accesses lifeguard towers will remain staffed throughout the remainder of the season.
Some of the Town’s lifeguards are now returning to school or their primary employment, and we would like to take the chance to thank them for their hard work and dedication since April. The Town is grateful for all they do to educate and assist the public along our 12 miles of beach strand.
In addition to the lifeguards, the beach warning flag system will remain in place through October, pending the National Weather Service’s forecasting. If you have not recently reviewed our beach warning flag video, now is a great time to check it out.
