TOWN OF DUCK: Tips To Help Keep Traffic Flowing While Using The Crosswalks

Crossing

Town of Duck issued the following announcement on Aug. 19.

Traffic through Town can be very heavy during the busy summer months. Crosswalks, when used correctly, can aid with the flow of traffic.

Here are some tips to help keep traffic flowing while using the crosswalks:

- ONLY cross the street at designated crosswalk locations. Attempting to cross elsewhere can confuse and surprise drivers.

- If you see more people walking toward where you are crossing, wait to see if you can cross as one larger group. Smaller groups crossing more frequently can cause backups to become worse.

- If you do not intend to cross the street, please stand back from the street so as not to confuse drivers of your intent. Intent is shown by putting a foot in the first white line an raising your hand to get drivers attention.

- Be sure to make eye contact with drivers to ensure that they see you and are stopping prior to crossing.

- STAY ALERT- While waiting to cross at the crosswalk stay off of personal devices and pay attention to your surroundings
