CURRITUCK COUNTY: Date Set for Operation Love Thy Neighbor

Maxresdefault

Currituck County issued the following announcement on May 27.

Currituck County will use the money raised by Operation Love Thy Neighbor to distribute Food Lion gift cards to county residents on Wednesday, June 3.

Operation Love Thy Neighbor is a special program intended to provide assistance to county residents who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals, businesses, and community groups are making monetary donations during the month of May.  All donations collected will be given out in the form of Food Lion gift cards.

Two distribution sites will be set up on June 3. Staff from  the Department of Social Services will begin handing out gift cards at 9:30 a.m. Each site will be a drive-thru format to help limit the spread of COVID-19.  There will be a limit of one gift card per household and participants will need to show proof of county residency to receive a gift card. Cards will be handed out while supplies last on a first-come basis.

The distribution sites are:

  • Crawford Township Fire Station, 121 Shawboro Road, Moyock, NC 27958
  • Lower Currituck Fire Station, 6323 Caratoke Hwy., Grandy, NC 27939
The NC Cooperative Extension Service in  Currituck County will also have staff present to provide one free activity kit per family. These kits will include budget friendly recipe cards, seeds and planting guides, and at-home activities for youth.

Thank you to everyone who participated by making a donation to Operation Love Thy Neighbor. Many county residents have been economically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and we hope these gift cards will provide some relief.
