County of Carteret issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

As a result of the water leak last night, a period of low or no pressure in the distribution system occurred. This increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, the Currituck County Water Department advises consumers in the areas of Ocean Sands Section F (Sea Oats Ct, Surf Song Lane, Sand fiddler Circle, Sandfiddler Trail, Surf Song Ct, Saltspray Ct, Salt Spray Circle); Ocean Sands Section E (Schooner Ridge , Staysail Cres)  to boil all water used for human consumption or use bottled water. Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

This advisory will remain until 8:00 am on Thursday, January 12.
