TOWN OF BEAUFORT: Awarded $225,000 Grant

Town of Beaufort issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

The Town of Beaufort is proud to announce it has been selected by the State Water Infrastructure Authority (SWIA) to receive a Pre-Construction Planning Grant.

The total grant amount is $225,000. The project is for wastewater pump station improvements.

“The town is honored to receive the Pre-Construction Planning Grant to help improve our wastewater pump stations,” said Beaufort Mayor Sharon Harker.

“This funding is to be used for preliminary engineering of improvements to replacements of sewer pump station numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5,” said Public Services Director/Town Engineer Greg Meshaw.

The Town was notified by the SWIA in a letter dated Aug. 30, 2022.

“The State Water Infrastructure Authority has approved your project as eligible to receive a grant,” the grant letter of intent to fund states.

The letter outlines that the first milestone is the submittal of a preliminary project scope that includes a cost estimate and schedule for each major task by Nov. 1, 2022.

“This grant will assist in building resilient infrastructure to withstand extreme climate changes to reduce the impact on our coastal environment for generations to come,” Mayor Harker said.
