TOWN OF PINE KNOLL SHORES: Contamination Of Recycling: Improper Disposal Of Engine Oil

Plasticdisposal

Town of Pine Knoll Shores issued the following announcement on July 1.

I'd like to remind everyone that we cannot place plastic bags in our recycling containers. Last week several loads were turned away at the recycling center and instead had to go to the trash landfill. As a result the Town paid $52/ton rather than $30/ton.

In a separate situation someone placed engine oil in a garbage bag and put it on the curb in their cart. When the bag went into the truck and was crushed the oil container burst open and contaminated the truck. The truck had to be taken out of service which delayed service for the entire town. Engine oil can be disposed of at the Hibbs Road convenience site. Also, the following three businesses in Morehead City accept old engine oil: AutoZone, O'Reilly's, and Advance Auto.
