COUNTY OF HYDE: Hyde Soil & Water Newsletter

Newsletter

County of Hyde issued the following announcement on June 10.

We are excited to have this year’s training August 15-18 at the all-new Cherokee Convention Center in beautiful Cherokee, North Carolina. Lots of training options are available through our three traditional training tracks including Technical, Education, and Managerial.

Conservation for New Employees will also be offered again this year. This is a four-part training that walks employees through the planning process; beginning with the interviewing the cooperator, completing inventory and evaluation, using common planning tools, and completing a conservation plan designed to meet the objectives of the cooperator. The Conservation for New Employees training is designed for employees who have been on the job for less than three years.

The training will take place Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning, Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday morning. New this year, the annual New Employee Orientation has been incorporated into the agenda for Monday.

This all-day training is the annual orientation for new members of the NC conservation partnership. Training is geared toward staff; including instructions for implementing cost share programs and paperwork required for state programs.

On Tuesday night, the District Employee Association will host a cookout at the Oconaluftee Island Park, just a few miles from the Convention Center. After the cookout you can travel three miles north into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and see the local elk herd as they come into the fields to graze.

The hotel has lots of dining options and activities including Guy Fieri’s Kitchen and Bar, Brio Italian Grille, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, a bowling alley, retail stores, and a spa. Registration and hotel details are available on the Division website at CET (ncagr.gov) .
