Town of Pine Knoll Shores issued the following announcement on Jan. 6.
Please do not put your recycling material in plastic bags.
These Will Be Available Free Of Charges in the front vestibule at Town Hall. Please grab one and affix it to whatever container you use for recycling. We have a handful now and will have several hundred coming shortly.
This week we had a considerable amount of recycling material that unfortunately had to go to the trash landfill due to contamination with plastic bags. As mentioned previously, we pay considerably more for trash tonnage than recycling tonnage.
We had a tough first week with our new trash/recycle contractor. Pick-up went into Tuesday, new drivers had a few wrong turns, they spent plenty of time picking up trash blown by 40 mph winds, they had a tough time distinguishing recycling material from trash (hence, the stickers) and they tried to separate plastic bags out of recycling material. We're working on that, and need your help.
Lastly, please try to have your trash/recycling curbside out on Sunday evening if possible (understanding that weather could impact this).
