COUNTY OF DARE: Public Works Announces Temporary Changes to Dumpster Service in Rodanthe Effective August 2, 2021

Dumpster

County of Dare issued the following announcement on Jul. 30.

The Dare County Public Works Department has announced the temporary shutdown of dumpster service at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Recycling Center due to the upcoming construction of a parking lot for the new boat ramp located at the end of Myrna Peters Road in Rodanthe.

These changes are slated to go into effect beginning on Monday, August 2, 2021, and will continue through Sunday, October 31, 2021.

In order to ensure the safety of construction crews working at the site, as well as the safety of the public, all dumpsters will be removed from the area while the site is under construction, and there will be no trash collected from this area.

The Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Recycling Center—which was temporarily closed in May 2021 due to staffing shortages within the Dare County Public Works Department—continues to remain closed and no recycling services will be provided at the facility until future notice.

Dumpsters will be returned to the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Recycling Center and dumpster service will resume once the boat ramp construction process has been completed.

Standard roadside residential trash collection for Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo will not be affected by the shutdown and will continue to operate as usual.

Crews from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission have been working in conjunction with Dare County to complete construction of the new boat ramp located at 23170 Myrna Peters Road in Rodanthe since March 2021, when the soundside boat launch area was closed to the public.

Construction of Phase 1 of the project—which began on April 5, 2021, and included the two-lane boat ramp, floating dock, courtesy platform and bulkhead—was completed on July 1, 2021.

Phase 2 of the construction process will begin on August 2, 2021, and includes new asphalt being poured on the site in order to pave the way for 14-16 parking spaces that can accommodate vehicles with trailers. A 30-foot-long vegetated buffer will also be constructed along the southern edge of the boat ramp.

Due to ongoing construction, there is also still no public access to the boat launch area at this time. For more information, as well as updates about construction on the Rodanthe boat ramp site, visit www.DareNC.com/Projects or contact Barton Grover at 252-475-5628 or Barton.Grover@DareNC.com.
