Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hill said they approved contracts to jointly work with an engineering firm for the 2022 beach nourishment project.

The municipal governments will work with Coastal Protection Engineering of North Carolina as the towns press forward with the beach project, The Outer Banks Voice reported on June 9

The firm will help the municipalities with engineering designs, getting the necessary permits and detailing offshore sand resources, The Outer Banks Voice reported. Two other municipalities, Duck Town and Southern Shores Town are also considering joining the pact for the nourishment.

“We’re going to have crews out there doing some additional investigations offshore,” Project Manager Ken Wilson said, The Outer Banks Voice reported. “If we can identify those and if we can develop them into permitted borrow sites, it could potentially bring the cost of the project down."

For the 2017 project, the four towns worked with the engineering company, The Outer Banks Voice reported.
