Carteret County issued the following announcement on May 6.
On May 6, 2020, Carteret County received an additional confirmed positive case for a total of 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the County. Of the 30 confirmed cases, 5 patients are active cases, 22 of those patients have recovered and have satisfied the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) isolation requirements, and 3 are deceased. Carteret County medical providers, including the Health Department, have collected specimens for COVID-19 testing for 647 patients resulting in 30 positive confirmations, 1 inconclusive, 596 negative results and 20 pending test results.
Residents who are experiencing symptoms compatible with COVID-19 such as fever and cough should immediately self-isolate and contact their healthcare provider to determine if they need to be tested.
