Outer Banks Health has completed the renovation and expansion of its Family Medicine practice in Manteo, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for September 9, 2025. The project has doubled the size of the facility to 7,488 square feet, making it the largest primary care office on the Outer Banks.

The building, originally constructed in the 1970s and previously measuring 3,715 square feet, now features fifteen exam rooms, a telebehavioral health space, an area for medical students and new nurses, and a wellness office. The entrance has been reoriented to face Highway 64 and includes improved accessibility features for individuals with physical disabilities. Additional parking spaces have also been added near the main entrance.

“This expansion shows OBH’s commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of Manteo and of the larger Outer Banks community. We are proud to invest in resources that support the well-being of our neighbors, ensuring that high-quality care is accessible close to home, and to provide an excellent experience to our team members and patients,” said Ronnie Sloan, FACHE, president of OBH.

Joining the Manteo Family Medicine team this August is Dr. Robert Wetzel from New Jersey. The practice will also host more medical students who will gain hands-on experience in rural healthcare settings.

“I really enjoy teaching; medical students bring new perspectives, keeping everyone engaged and at the forefront of learning. We are grateful for them, some of whom are local to the Outer Banks and are enthusiastic about serving the community,” said Erin Baker, MD, with OBH Family Medicine – Manteo.

Over recent years, Outer Banks Health has increased both its provider base and service offerings across five primary care locations and two urgent care centers. Specialty services now include cardiology, urology, orthopedics, women’s care, cancer care, and surgery.

“Our growth is driven by our passion for this extraordinary community and recruiting top-tier providers to care for it,” said Lynne Miles, executive director of Medical Group Operations at Outer Banks Health.

Community members are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting event. A representative will be available on-site to help schedule appointments for those seeking a primary care provider. More information about services can be found at www.outerbankshealth.org or by calling (252) 449-4540.
