The Morehead City Council will hold a public hearing on April 14 regarding financing for the renovation of the W.S. King Recreation Center.

The upcoming hearing is an important step as the city prepares to move forward with upgrades to the recreation center, which are expected to benefit local residents by improving community facilities and recreational opportunities.

According to information released by the city, in February, the Council approved a Design to Build Contract with Daniels and Daniels Construction and plans to begin work on the project in June. The April public hearing is focused specifically on accepting financing for these renovations.

The first phase of improvements will include renovating the existing gymnasium with new seating and viewing areas, adding a second gymnasium at the rear of the building, constructing two outdoor pickleball courts with a shade structure, fully renovating the multi-purpose field behind the property, and increasing parking capacity.

Residents can review details of both upcoming and previous meetings by visiting agendas posted on Morehead City’s website. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers located on the second floor of City Hall at 1100 Bridges Street.
