The migrant numbers for October totaled 240,988, encompassing 188,778 illegal crossings and the parole of over 44,000 migrants into the U.S. through the Biden administration’s utilization of the CBP. This upswing in numbers marks an increase from previous years.

The specifics of these recent migration figures require some elaboration. There have been exactly 240,988 crossings in October according to a Fox News article. Higher than the 231,529 record in October of 2022 and an even lower amount back in 2021 reaching 164,837. As these numbers begin to rise officials have started to express more concern for these unhealthy numbers. But enforcing immigration laws has not been ideal.

The Biden administration’s approach to this escalating issue is multi-faceted. Biden’s strategy has been trying to “combine consequences” for these types of illegal entering, according to a Fox News article. Technology and other resources have been put to use, such as Expedited Removal and the asylum rule. Both set claims for individuals who are illegally crossing. The administration has also decided to start deportation flights.

Political responses to these changes vary significantly. Most Republicans have started to blame Biden’s administration’s border policies on the mess of the southern border, according to Fox News. Constantly comparing his policies to when Trump was in office and the start of the border wall was created, referred to “a greater use of humanitarian parole and reduction of interior enforcement” in the Fox News article.
