The Carteret County Solid Waste Division announced on April 16 that it will hold a free household hazardous waste collection event in partnership with Coastal Environmental Partnership. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carteret County Health Department parking lot at 3820 Bridges Street in Morehead City.
The initiative aims to provide residents with a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of unwanted materials that cannot go into regular trash. Proper disposal helps prevent water contamination, reduces risks for sanitation workers, and protects the environment.
Residents can bring small quantities of items such as cooking oil, automotive fluids including gasoline and used motor oil, antifreeze, lawn and garden pesticides, batteries, and paint. Items not accepted include infectious waste, gas cylinders, commercial waste, radioactive materials, ammunition or explosives. The drive-thru service allows participants to stay in their vehicles while staff unloads the materials. Proof of residency is required for participation.
Coastal Environmental Partnership serves Carteret as well as Craven and Pamlico counties by providing sustainable solid waste disposal services throughout the year.
