County of Currituck issued the following announcement on March 7.

Our Severe Weather Preparedness Week topic of the day is…..SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS! 

One of the keys to staying safe during the severe weather season is making sure that you have a way to receive lifesaving severe weather watches and warnings. There are many methods and tools, some of which are available at no cost, that you can use to receive these important lifesaving alerts no matter where you are – at home, at school, or at work! 

On Wednesday, March 8th at 9:30 AM the National Weather Service will conduct a statewide tornado drill. Today, make sure that you know the ways you can receive this alert so you can participate! Some ways to receive alerts are through…

Currituck Alert by Everbridge Follow the link for instructions on how to download the mass notification app OR text CTUCKALERT to 888-777 to sign up for notifications via text message only!

NOAA Weather Radio

These radios can be purchased at many retail stores or online for $20 to $40.They receive NWR broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS)FEMA’s national system that provides emergency and life-saving information through radio, TV, and mobile phones using (Wireless Emergency Alerts) WEA. 

Check your phone settings to be sure your alerts are turned on!

Being in the know is the only way to go!
